Relay Information:
What are you committing to? Running a six leg relay, of almost 30 miles – or a 60 miles if you are up for a bigger challenge! Legs range from 4.3-5.5 miles each and depending upon your pace, the relay will take approximately 4-5 hours. We’ll have some really good food and really good music at the start and finish – which are both located at Lake Needwood. You’ll run in a beautiful environment with some great running friends.
For those of you who are relay virgins, here’s the scoop…
The 30 mile Rock the Creek Relay is a six-leg relay. The first runner takes off from Lake Needwood Park and heads down the Rock Creek trail to Aspen Hill Park. At the same time, the vehicle carrying the other runners heads there to the first transition.
At Transition One, the second runner takes the wrist band and heads for Transition Two. At the same time, the first runner joins his/her teammates in the vehicle and they all head to Transition Three. And so on. And so on.
Oh, and did we mention that there will be food and music at the start? Which is also the finish since this is an out and back!
The entire event, which is just under 29 miles, will take most teams between four and five hours to finish, depending upon pace.
Runners will be starting every 15 minutes between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM. There will be a maximum of 20 runners per starting wave. If your team will average 10 minutes per mile or slower, please plan to start at 7:30 or 7:45 so we can limit our volunteer shifts along the course and you can enjoy some time at the finish line party as well!
Individual Runner Details:
If you are running the half marathon, full marathon or ultra marathon, you will run along the same course as the relay participants. Start time for these races is TBD but expect to start around 7:30 a.m. More details will follow for these races.
